Apple Reigns Supreme over Google in the Battle of the Brands

Back when I had Marketing class in the university, my professor always gloated about how Google was reported to be the world’s most valuable brand. But as unfair as life’s laws may seem, what goes up must come down, and Google is no exception. Their 4-year reign at the top is finally over, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out who took the number one spot. I knew they had it coming anyway ever since they were the first brand to successfully release that phone thing that didn’t require a keypad…

Yeap. Put your hands together for Apple Inc. – maker of the iPhone, iPad, and iMac – for grabbing the number one spot in the battle of the brands. It was a fair fight. They deserve it anyway, Steve Jobs and the rest of the team are geniuses when it comes to creating new demands. Apple’s brand value went up by 84% to $153.3 billion in the past year, according to WPP’s Millward Brown unit. On the other hand, Google lost 2% and fell to $111.5 billion. IBM came in third, climbing 17% and the fourth spot went to the golden arches McDonald’s Corp.

Millward Brown Chief Executive Officer Eileen Campbell wrote in a report, “It’s clear that every single Apple employee, from Steve Jobs and Tim Cook to the summer interns, see protecting and nurturing that brand as a top priority. Tablet computing also drove value growth not just for Apple, but also for the providers who support yet another networked device.”

Other potential brands were Facebook Inc, which had a whopping 246% climb in brand value taking the 35th spot at $19.1 billion, followed by Google’s Chinese rival Baidu Inc., which had a 141% growth, taking the 29th spot at $22.6 billion.
