Facebook SIM Card Launched

We can hardly go on a day without logging on to Facebook or even speaking the word, ‘Facebook,’ in our day to day conversation, that proves how powerful Facebook has become to our lives. To add even more power and uh, addiction, Gemalto, a Dutch digital security company has announced the creation of Facebook SIM card at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Gemalto confirmed that Facebook are indeed, compatible with the SIM-compliant phones, therefore, Facebook SIM Card would work for both prepaid and postpaid numbers. Here is how the Facebook for SIM works; it taps into your handset’s SMS connectivity to allow the users to interact with their Facebook contacts; users not only can sign up for Facebook account directly from their handsets but they can also view friends’ status updates, accept friend requests, post on walls, and send messages, all via a dedicated SIM application.

Henri Moissinac, Head of Mobile Business at Facebook said, ‘Increasingly people want to be able to stay connected and communicate with their friends on Facebook anytime, anywhere.’ The plan to create the application based on the Class 2 SMS system to ensure that even the most basic mobile phones can get access to Facebook without even being connected to internet. ‘Gemalto has developed a creative solution in Facebook for SIM that enables people without mobile data plans to stay connected to their friends on Facebook in an affordable way,’ Moissinac adds.

I am having a personal conflict just thinking about it, it’s good, and bad, and seriously, addictive way that can lead to a destructive behavior. What are your thoughts on being connected to Facebook anytime, anywhere?
