Facebook introduces Listen with Friends

As someone once said, “Music is the universal language of mankind.” Facebook recognizes the importance of music to the Facebook community with the latest feature to be introduced to Facebook, Listen with Friends.

Ever had those moments where you found a great song off the web and couldn’t wait to share it with your friends? Facebook has certainly made that a whole lot easier.
Well, what does it do? Users familiar with turntable.fm should not be a stranger to the new feature; it allows Facebook users to listen to the same music, at the exact same position with a group of friends. That also means that one of them could play the DJ while the group chat and listen to the songs through the Facebook chat bar.
The feature is currently only available for people who use music services as Rdio and Spotify. Facebook explains that the service has at the moment some restrictions. “Only the people you’ve shared your listening activity with can see when you’re listening with a friend,” as it is explained on the official Help Center post.
The response to this new feature has been lukewarm so far. While some have been excited to try it out, others have also called Facebook out for copying Google and turntable.fm. That is a rather unfair conclusion I believe, and if Facebook does it better, why not? Turntable.fm is only available to those in the US and face it or not, Facebook is the place to be right now and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon with Facebook’s enthusiasm in updating its features.
