Free Games Earn More Than Paid Games In App Store
According to an analytics company which has tracked more than 90,000 apps in the App Store, Flurry, free iPhone and iPod touch games generate more revenue than their paid counterparts on Apple’s App Store.
The company has analyzed the revenue generated by the top 100 grossing games on the App store in January and June. They found that free games contributed 65% of all revenue from the top 100 grossing games in June, which is in contrast with its performance in January when 61% of revenue from the top 100 was generated from paid games.
Free games generates revenue by placing ads or in-app upgrades.
The data might shows a shift in consumer purchase preferences or a marked change in how developers are monetizing their applications.
