Google Acquires The Dealmap

The Dealmap, a startup that shows on a Google Maps-powered map just where you can find all the Groupon-like daily deals in your geographic area is now acquired by Google.

Google spokesperson said they are impressed with what the Dealmap team has accomplished and excited to welcome them to Google.

In these few years, Google has been working on location based service. The company has launched local business-recommendation engine Hotpot late in 2010. Also, they offered 5.3billion to acquire Groupon. Then Google Offers was introduced in January 2011 and checkin capabilities to Latitude were added one month later.

With these initiatives, it is clear that Google aim to become the simplest one-stop-shop for deal seekers, then to integrate Google’s own revenue-generating offers with deals from more established players.

“We’ve been thrilled with the early success of our commerce offerings and we think The Dealmap can help us build even better products and services for consumers and merchants.”, Google rep told VentureBeat.
