Google Maps Adds Traffic Re-Routing Option

Roy Williams, Software Engineer of Google Maps Team knows that we have better things to do than to wait in traffic; Google Maps Navigation Beta not only tells you which way to go but this free application now shows you which is the fastest way to reach your destination, re-routing the traffic right at your fingertips.

‘Starting today, our routing algorithms will also apply our knowledge of current and historical traffic to select the fastest route from those alternates,’ says Roy Williams on Google’s Official Blog. ‘That means that Navigation will automatically guide you along the best route given the current traffic conditions,’ he added.

Google Maps Navigation Beta calculates time from the real life traffic, all you have to do is start up the application just like how you normally would, follow the routes, and Google will do its magic of taking you through the fastest route even if it means taking a longer one but you are most likely guaranteed to get their faster, at least, as fast as possible.

The traffic re-routing for Google Maps Navigation Beta is only available in North America and Europe at the moment because both of both the navigation and real-time traffic data that’s available. Do you think we need this application for Singapore? I would like to think that it’s more for Jakarta or Bangkok, although, it would never work in those cities because everywhere you turn, there’s a jam.
