Is China Telecom Preparing For iPhone 5?

The iPhone 5 rumors are spreading fast.

It’s hard to say whether these rumors are accurate, given that Apple has kept quiet in regards to its next iPhone.  The company has not officially admitted that there is another iPhone handset in the making.  The launch and shipment dates aren’t the only myster surrounding the iPhone 5.  No one is quite sure of what the handset’s new features are.

Even though iPhone 5 has not yet been announced, it did not stop a number of carriers from advertising the device and taking pre-orders.  China’s third largest mobile operator China Telecom has begun training their employees to start taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5 at the end of September.  Unnamed sources stated that the telecom already announced the availability of iPhone 5 at one of their stores.

China Telecom became the world’s largest CDMA operator surpassing Verizon with a total of 108 million subscribers.  The introduction of iPhone 5 will increase subsidies for its mobile customers.  An industry analyst predicts China Telecom may sell a total of 1.06 million iPhones by the end of 2011.

China Telecom is certainly bigger than Verizon.  Did Apple admit the release of iPhone 5 to them before admitting the same to US carriers?
