Majel – Google’s attempt to take a bite out of Apple

Rumour has it that Google’s working on a new project in their top secret Google X lab and boy do Android users have something to look forward to!

Google currently already have a Voice Actions function available for Android users, but Majel will be an expansion of that through the addition of a natural language processing feature.

Named after the voice behind the Federation Computer from the Star Trek series, when Google’s Director of Android OS User Experience, Matias Duarte, was contacted for comment, he said “Our approach is more like Star Trek, right, Starship Enterprise; every piece of computing surface, everything is voice-aware. It’s not that there’s a personality, it doesn’t have a name, it’s just Computer,” of Majel.

Industry insiders predict that Majel would be launched in the next few months  and judging from the boom in the popularity of voice-command applications upon Siri’s launch, anticipation is high for the shiny brand new toy that Google is coming up with.

In other news, the number of users of the Facebook app on Android has overtaken the number of Facebook app users on the iPhone.

Will Majel send Apple’s popularity further downhill? Looks like it’s high time for that iPhone 5 guys!
