Rumour: 7-inch iPad coming in October for under $200-$250

There is a rumor mill with the news that Apple is planning to create a smaller version of the iPad, a 7-inch iPad. The 7-inch iPad would be released coming October alongside the next-gen iPhone!?

According to Digitimes:

‘’Pegatron Technology reportedly has landed orders for a new-generation iPhone to be launched in September and a 10-inch iPad to be launched in the fourth quarter, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Pegatron is currently an OEM for the iPhone 4S and new iPad…A 7-inch iPad, which reportedly will be released in August, will be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics ( Hon Hai Precision Industry). ‘’

The most interesting claim about the 7-inch iPad is that it will be priced between $200-$250. This is cheap though! It will feature a Retina display like third-gen iPad and will keep the same resolution of 2048×1536. It also seems like that the 7-inch iPad would have the same pixel density of the iPhone 4S.

Rene Ritchie of iMore wrote in his blog:

‘’Apple will be going forward with the 7-inch iPad, currently targeting an October 2012 release alongside the new iPhone, and — here’s the killer — at a $200 to $250 price point. According to our source, which has proven reliable in the past, the reason for such aggressive pricing is to do to the tablet market what Apple did to the MP3 market in 2004 with the expansion of the iPod product line — leave absolutely no space for competitors.’’

There are rumours that Apple would not put a Retina display in the 7-inch iPad to conserve costs. But according to iMore, there would be a Retina display so Apple got another way to make the technology cost effective.

If the 7-inch iPad would be released in October, would you buy it? However, let keep this as rumours and we will inform you as soon we receive new information about the 7-inch iPad!
