Skype launches Windows Phone app

It is official! Since February Skype has been in beta version but now Skype has finally been released on the Windows Phone Marketplace. This service runs on Windows Phone 7.5 ‘’Mango’’ or above.

Skype for Windows Phone app can be used on 4G, 3G and WIFI networks to make free voice and video calls to the Skype contacts. Or users can use Skype credits to make calls to mobile phones or to landlines. There some extra features included such as video calling in portrait mode and friend management. The friend management is including useful tools like invite/accept invitations, block and unblock contacts. Furthermore, it is possible to create one-to-one or group chats and joining audio conference calls. Skype is definitely trying to improve the communication tools to stay ahead of the competition.

It is available in 18 languages on smartphones running: English, German, French, Dutch, Finnish, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, European Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Danish and Swedish.

According to Derek Snyder, head of mobile product marketing at Skype:

“This is the first of many releases to come for Windows Phone, so stay tuned for even more capabilities in the future. We believe in the great potential of the Windows Phone platform and will continue to invest over time to enable experiences unmatched by any other app in the market.”
