The +1 button for websites: recommend content across the web

Yesterday, Google start to release its +1 buttons to the whole web. So, do not be surprised when you see +1 button appear on all sites across the Internet.

What is +1 button?

Clicking on +1 will enable you to share recommendations with the world right in Google search results. It is similar to the Facebook’s “like” button.

After clicking  “+1” at the link that you like, your friend will be able to see your recommendation below the search result when they find for similar links next time. For example, “Laura +1’d this”.

How does Google know who is your friend? Your friends will be those who you have already connected to through Google. For example, your chat buddies and contacts, and your followers on Twitter.

According to Google, they will partnered with a few sites such as Mashable, Rotten Tomatoes, The Washinton Post, Reuters, TechCrunch, Bloomberg, Best Buy and others to implement the +1 button in the future. Besides, the button will start to appear in other Google Properties such as Android Market, Blogger, Product Search and YouTube.

You can try the +1 feature right now through Google’s experimental search site. But to use the service, you will need to sign into your Google Account first.

For those who are webmasters, you can get the +1 button code and learn how to implement it on your website from Google’s +1 webmaster site.
