Wikipedia Is Going to Have a “Love” Button

According to the 2011 survey of Wikipedia editors, Wikipedia found that their editors will edit more often if they have compliments on their edits/article. In addition, their Summer Research also shows that the likelihood that new users will receive correction/criticism has increased over the past few years.

In order to allow users to express appreciation to editors, Wikipedia is going to launch its “Wiki Love” button that has similar function as Facebook’s “like” button and Google’s “+1” button.

Clicking on the “love” button which will appeared as a little heart shape, will open a Love Interface that allow you to choose what kind of love and image to send. Receiving editors will be notified on their account discussion page.

I think this is a very good idea to let users give more support to editors and thereby encourage users to produce  information of better quality on Wikipedia.
