Zynga buys ‘Draw Something’ app maker
Draw Something is a massive Pictionary-style game hit that connects friends to draw pictures on the phone or tablet and send that drawing to a friend who’s left to guess. Didn’t you notice? Just take a look around you, people are playing this game everywhere like in the train, restaurant or even in the elevator.
In fact, Draw Something is not a new game. It is been available on OMGPOP’s web for over 4 years. But now, within 6 weeks of launching on Android and iOS, it has been downloaded more than 35 million time. Really amazing… that a game can be that popular after so many years! This is showing that an app game can be launched at the wrong day, month or year. If it’s not a hit, just try few more years later like OMGPOP?
Dan Porter, CEO of Draw Something said: “You can go along for three or four years with no success, and then one day you can open the door and crazy things can happen,”
Zynga the world’s leading provider of social game service described ‘Draw Something’ as a cultural hit. Zynga has confirmed to acquire the New York-based social game developer OMGPOP and now they paid between $200 million and $250 million for OMGPOP.
According to Zynga: “We love the way they’ve worked playful and relevant culture into their games from Devo to Daft Punk, from Lin to Beckham. We’re honoured to have the opportunity to partner with and support such an innovative team of creative inventors.”
So what do you think about Zynga’s purchase of OMGPOP?
